È Professore Associato di Statistica Sociale nella Facoltà di Scienze Politiche dell'Università di Cagliari in cui ricopre gli insegnamenti di Statistica Sociale e di Modelli e Metodi per la Valutazione dei Sevizi. E' dottore di Ricerca in Statistica Applicata e ha conseguito il Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics and Operational Research presso il Dipartimento di Matematica della University of Essex (GB). Già ricercatore presso il Dipartimento di Statistiche Economiche dell'Istituto Nazionale di Statistica si è occupato di modelli probabilistici per la determinazione dello stato di attività delle imprese. Partecipa a progetti di ricerca di interesse nazionale ed internazionale. I suoi principali settori di interesse scientifico e di ricerca riguardano lo studio degli indicatori compositi, la valutazione sia in ambito universitario sia nel settore dei servizi di pubblica utilità. Si occupa, inoltre, di metodologie per la valutazione dell'efficacia ed efficienza degli interventi di formazione e dell'Orientamento agli studi universitari. Dal maggio 2007 è componente del Nucleo di Valutazione dell'Ateneo di Cagliari. È stato autovalutatore di CdS nell’ambito del progetto CampusOne.


Mariano Porcu is Associate Professor of Social Statistics in the Faculty of Political Science, Università di Cagliari, There, he teaches Social Statistics and Statistical methods for the Evaluation. He obtained his Doctoral Degree in Applied Statistics at the Università di Palermo (Italy) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics & Operational Research at the University of Essex (United Kingdom). Before joining the Università di Cagliari in 2002 to hold the position of academic researcher, he was a researcher at the Economic Statistic Department of the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), where he was mainly involved in the project for designing probabilistic models to study firms’ state activity. He is a member of research groups at national and international level. His research interests lie primarily in the area of applied statistics and policy evaluation methods, with particular focus on the assessment of university, professional training and public utility sector policy effectiveness. He also focuses his research interests in the study of school - university transitions.
